Square Dancing

Advanced Square Dancing

Today’s Square Dancing is not heehaw music, frilly clothes or cowboy shirts. It’s not even dancing. It’s just walking to music. It’s a little like football, except without the concussions. You’ve got formations. You’ve got a team around you. You’ve got plays sent in by the caller. The challenge is, can you run your route successfully? Now, granted, the team is coed. But that’s a feature. If you enjoyed geometry in high school, you’ll get a kick out of this stuff.

Square Dancing

This class covers calls 51 through 100 in the square dance curriculum. At the end of the class you’ll be Plus Dancers. To participate you must have learned the first 50 calls and have permission from the teacher. The class has four 9-week sessions and finishes in May.

Introducing Callerlab Square Dance Instructor Bruce Holmes

Bruce Holmes will be providing instruction on behalf of the Kenilworth Park District for a 9 week Square Dance Lesson program.

Bruce has spent much of his life teaching various courses and subjects. He taught Aikido at Northwestern University for seven years, a folk dance group in Evanston and Chicago for close to a decade, and facilitated juggling workshops for several years. He's a triathlon coach certified by the US Olympic Committee, was the coach for Oakton Chess (taking the team to two state championships), coached AYSO soccer and was a teacher of the Feldenkrais method. He still sells a CD containing 48 of the Feldenkrais Lessons. Bruce is the author of two SciFi novels, and an award-winning singer/songwriter with two CDs out (both charted). He’s a member of Callerlab and a caller for the Glenview Square Dance Club. He first tried square dancing when he was eleven. Fifty-eight years later it's still the most fun hes ever had.
